Sylvia Patterson: A Rock 'n' Roll Disaster...

In December 2000 Thom Yorke cycled through a ferocious storm in central Oxford to a non-chain café, squelched through the door, unzipped his sturdy, neon-orange logo-free cagoule and perched at a wooden table, raindrops dripping off his casually stubbly chin. We’d never met before.
 
 
Very sporadically, though, he’d acquiesce, agreeing to a summit that day with the only British publication he approved of, the none-more-worthy Big Issue, on the occasion of Radiohead’s fourth album, the seemingly willfully contrary electro-spook curio, Kid A. Meanwhile, he’d long fallen out with the sarky cynics over at NME, hadn’t talked to them in 5 years, denying them any interviews throughout the lifespan of OK Computer, deemed The Greatest Album Ever Made by exactly the types who read (and wrote) NME and was now denying them again.
 
 
What happened next was one of the greatest cock-ups which can ever befall any “professional” journalist…
