Dan Daley - Journalist

Dan Daley is one of the professional audio industry’s most widely published journalist.  Over the past 20 years, he has appeared regularly in every major publication globally in the industry. In addition, he is the author of several books, most recently Nashville’s Unwritten Rules: Inside the Business of Country Music (Overlook Press, New York 2000). Dan was also chosen to write the key chapter on digital music and distribution for Baskerville’s renowned college and university textbook, Music Business Handbook and Career Guide, a best seller now in its eighth edition (2005). He also writes for other publications including USA Today, the London Daily Telegraph, the Wine Spectator, History Channel Magazine, American Way, the New York Daily and ArchiTech, among them.

Prior to becoming a journalist, Dan had a successful career as a musician (he played pedal steel guitar on several sessions at Electric Lady Studios) and composer, penning hits for The Charlie Daniels Band ‘Still in Saigon’ and Johnny Winter ‘Rain ‘ among others. He was also co-owner and CFO of Pyramid Recordings Studio in New York City, where he engineered record and broadcast projects including MTV’s The Big Show.

Dan is also a veteran moderator. He recently guided panels at the 2005 AES Convention in New York on emerging media technologies, and was selected to host the panel on the Electric Lady 35 th Anniversary Retrospective in NAMM 2006.
