James Scroggs - VP Marketing, MTV Networks UK and Ireland

James started his career in advertising, winning a Graduate place at advertising Agency DMB&B, following a gruelling 24hr interview process filmed for a BBC Documentary. He moved on to Lowe Howard-Spink to work on Stella Artois (amongst other brands) driving the award-winning ‘Reassuringly Expensive’ campaign and launching the Stella Screen film programme.

In 2000, James finally decided to change from poacher to gamekeeper, leaping the fence into marketing as Senior Brand Manager at ONdigital. Working through the re-launch as ITV Digital and the genesis of ‘Al & Monkey’ with Mother (recently revived by PG Tips), James was then part of the large team tasked with turning the lights off at the business, when the business sank beyond Administration.

Fortunately he was already speaking with MTV and became Marketing Director, then VP Marketing of MTV UK and Ireland where he has remained since July 2002. At MTV James is responsible for all above the line advertising, trade and affiliate marketing, ‘brand experience’ projects, events, CSR and consumer products.

In various other lives, he is a council member of the Institute of Contemporary Arts, patron of a young male mental health charity, CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) and on the board of The Ideas Foundation, dedicated to creating opportunities for disadvantaged young people to work in the creative industries. He is a self-confessed muso…and his ambition to be a famous singer-songwriter remains ambitious to say the least.
