Jonathan Robinson - Programme Director, MusicTank

A musician by training (City of Leeds College of Music), previous lives include 15 years as a freelance musician – drums & percussion – during which time he toured much of the UK with countless shows, incl. Les Miserables, Evita, Sweeney Todd, Whistle Down The Wind, Hair, The Rocky Horror Show, Cabaret, Oliver! and Blood Brothers for top-flight producers incl. Sir Cameron Mackintosh, Bill Kenwright CBE, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and Sir Alan Ayckbourn.

This was interspersed with forays into Europe and the Middle East, occasional cruises (P&O & Cunard) and residencies in London’s West End (Talk of London, Hilton Park Lane). In the course of his work he’s played with a veritable who’s who of performers and entertainers incl. Russ Abbott, Gary Wilmot, Brian Blessed, Max Bygraves, Brian Conroy, Michael Barrymore and Ruby Turner.

Towards the end of this period, he also started representing composers, in the process gaining commissions for independent film makers and production companies Planet24, Joose TV  and World of Wonder, through to BBC Worldwide, and Channel 4.

For the last nine years Jonathan has held the position of programme director, MusicTank and in the summer of 2014 accepted a seat on the Giving Committee of Help Musicians UK (formerly the Musicians’ Benevolent Fund), which discusses and approves awards and funding to individual musicians and music organisations.
