Paul Smernicki - Direcor of Digital, Universal Music UK

After 11 years at Universal Music label Polydor where he  latterly oversaw the integration of digital into all departments across the label, Paul Smernicki was promoted to his current role towards the end of 2010.

In his new role, hewill work closely with Universal Music’s artists, labels and partners to drive forward digital innovation in every area of the company’s business.

Paul joined Polydor as a press officer in 1999 before teaming with Jim Chancellor and Joe Munns to successfully re-launch the Fiction label in late 2003. He was label manager at Fiction until he became Polydor Head of Digital in May 2006, taking a wider remit as Director of Digital & D2C in May 2008.

In this latter role he has overseen Polydor’s move into the direct-to-consumer area with successful and ground-breaking store launches for the Rolling Stones, Take That and Lady Gaga.
