Ray Farrell - VP Content Acquisition, emusic.com Inc

Ray Farrell has been with emusic.com since 1999 as the head of Label Acquisition. Ray entered the music business in his college years as a buyer and manager for independently owned record stores. He was buyer and catalog manager for Rough Trade US Distribution as it first established in the US in 1980.

He worked for Pacifica Radio as an engineer for the acclaimed Maximum Rock n’ Roll syndicated radio show and hosted his own show on the 100,000 watt KPFA, Pacifica’s Berkeley,CA outpost.

In 1985 he formed and managed the promotion department of SST Records, just as it entered its heyday with an incredible roster including Black Flag, Sonic Youth The Minutemen, Husker Du and many others. After a stint with Blast First!, he was the head of Alternative Marketing at Geffen Records from 1989 to 1995, working closely with Nirvana, Beck, and others. From there he moved to the label’s A&R department working closely for the next five years with White Zombie, Sonic Youth, Southern Culture On The Skids and others.
