Gaynor O'Flynn - Performance Artist

Gaynor is an artist who works in music, performance & installation art.

She started her career in groundbreaking music & arts TV – on Channel 4’s The Tube andThe Other Side Of Midnight with Tony Wilson.  She filmed globally from Easter Island to Soweto with artists including Bjork, Nirvana, New Order, Sinead O’Connor, PJ Harvey & The Verve.

A pioneer in interactive, inter disciplinary practice she established her company and collective – Beinghuman – with cycle powered laptop events in the 90’s, an online event for Tibet in 1997, 5 million hits in one weekend and broadcast a Dalai Lama ceremony from the Indian Himalayas in 2000, the highest internet broadcast ever at the time.

The BBC called her, ‘That Conscious, Cathartic Voice’, Artrocker, ‘Bloody Brilliant” & Le cool London “Hugely Enlightening”. Her music compositions have featured on TV & film including Argo – Oscar Best Picture 2013.  She currently holds the record for the most gigs performed at one Glastonbury – 22 in 2007.

Gaynor O'Flynn - Being HumanRecently she has worked with Musion, ROLI, Turner Prize Winners Richard Long, Martin Creed, Karl Hyde on works in London, Nepal, India and Istanbul.  This year she is performing at The Mind Life Institute in Boston with Dalai Lama & Arianna Huffington.  Her recent commission for The International Performance Festival in Istanbul involved her creating a work for voice and cello and creating circles of light with an EEG scanner from her brainwaves as she sang.   She will also present this at Music Tech Fest London and in Mexico City, autumn 2014.

She campaigns for Fair Trade For Artists and believes in the power of art and music for social change and curates The British Chapter of The Kathmandu International Art Festival.

Gaynor curates interdisciplinary artist residencies in the Beinghuman Warehouses in Somerset and East London. Over 1,000 artists from Mongolia, Siberia, Greece, US, Europe and Africa have worked, performed and exhibited there.

She is currently working on interactive music, tech and performance works for Spitalfields Music Festival and Mehboob studios in Mumbai.
