Phil Chard - CEO, Point Black

Phil is an award-winning entrepreneur, content creator and marketer who is passionate about the entertainment industry and empowering African artists and creatives.

He is from Zimbabwe, and his passion for the creative arts and marketing have allowed him to work across Africa and Asia, where he has worked with a number or artists and organisations on developing digital strategies and campaigns.

Phil is currently CEO of Point Black – a boutique digital marketing consultancy focused on helping clients reach their customers in the most efficient ways possible, and he works with a wide range of clients, from individuals to multinational franchises

As a digital content creator, Phil’s content currently reaches over 2,000,000 young people interested in African stories and content. He has been blogging and podcasting for almost a decade via the African Hip Hop Blog and 2 Broke Twinbos.

The African Hip Hop Blog has won ‘Best Blog’ and ‘Best Music Blog’ categories at the African Blogger Awards, and its website has registered over 1,700,000 visitors and attracted in excess of 680,000 YouTube views.

2 Broke Twimbos is a podcast and blog that documents the careers of notable African creatives, whilst providing incisive commentary on current events in popular culture. The podcast has been downloaded over 500,000 times, and in 2016 won ‘Best Digital Media’ at the Zimbabwean Music Awards. It has also been recognised as an important disruptor and cited as such in academic research (Katie Chambers/ Africa University).

Phil is a 2017 Mandela Washington fellow (Dartmouth College).
